Welcome back to another trade by kawntent sports, where we try to fix the Memphis Grizzlies. They have still not won a game and this might be because both Steven Adams and Brandon Clarke are both injured and they don’t have enough centers to stay afloat. This deal sends a first rounder that is most likely to convey as Memphis’ pick this year but is the same pick that could theoretically convey as Phoenix or Washington’s pick along with Adams in exchange for Daniel Gafford.

Why the Grizzlies do this:

The Grizzlies here make the bet that Daniel Gafford is the solution to all their problems and they make the playoffs as one of the top teams with Ja Morant returning. Outside of their pick, they don’t give up a whole lot, as Adams is out for the season and likely to be worse when he returns. This is a win-now move that could certainly blow up in the Grizzlies’ face but could also result in a playoff team.

Why the Wizards do this:

The Wizards make the bet that Gafford is not the solution to the Grizzlies’ problems and send him off for a first round pick hoping it conveys as a second lottery pick in this draft. They also bring in a second round pick and Steven Adams who they probably look to flip at the 2025 trade deadline, or earlier. This could be a jackpot for the Wizards or they could simply lose Gafford for a mid-to-late first round pick and it wouldn’t be too terrible.
