Welcome back to another trade by kawntent sports. In this deal, two players making the exact same amount of money are swapped to increase their fit with their new teams.

Why the Spurs do this:

Wembanyama is not built to play center. He’s too skinny and plays too much on the perimeter. Wemby is a forward forced into a center role because of amazing height. If the Spurs realize he is to play forward they will look for a center and want to get rid of Keldon Johnson to set up the forward duo of Sochan/Wemby for success. This trade does just that, bringing in a traditional center in Jarrett Allen to complement Wemby’s skills as a forward and create a monster defensive frontcourt with himself, Wemby, and Sochan all being All-Defensive level players on that end of the floor.

Why the Cavs do this:

Similar to the Spurs, the Cavs have a young big playing out of position. Evan Mobley is playing the 4 while being the league’s best young center. He doesn’t have the perimeter scoring ability to play power forward which is what Keldon Johnson comes in to do, becoming that wing the Cavs have so desperately needed. Johnson is also a year younger than Allen allowing him to grow more with his new teammates.
