Pistons realize that by the time this team is close to sniffing contention, Cade will most likely have one foot out the door. They sell high on his very good season after an injury plagued 22-23 season for a plethora of picks, and 2 veterans who could be moved down the line for other picks.

The Spurs aren’t messing around with Wembys timeline and they want a guy who is on his timeline, and get him a young PG with tremendous upside. Vasell slides to the 2 with Tre Jones coming off the bench. Duren can play with Wemby to instantly have one of the most imposing frontcourts in the league, or can come off the bench if his spacing is an issue.

The 2025 pick is top 3 protected in Case something goes insanely wrong and they find themselves in the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes. I would assume the Pistons push back on that and want it unprotected, and honestly would want more draft assets.

If I’m the Spurs this is the exact type of aggressive move I’m making while Wembys on a cheap deal. I’m not being patient with this guy. He’s special enough to mortgage the future.
